Katie Hill and Liberal Hypocrisy

Katie Hill was credibly accused of sexual misconduct. He is accused (and seems to admit) having sex with a staffer (which is an ethics violation). There is a charge that she paid off said staffer. She ducked out of the ethics investigation (which would have been done by her own political party).

Like so many people before her who have been accused of sexual misconduct. She hasn't admitted to doing anything wrong. She is blaming the press. She is blaming her ex-husband. I haven't seen her take any responsibility for her actions.

1. If she believes she is innocent she should take the responsibility to fight it. Kavanaugh fought accusations against him. So did Bill Clinton. The only reason for her not to fight is that she is afraid of what might come out in the investigation.

2. She is claiming that no man would face what she is facing. Of course Anthony Weiner faced exactly that. Aziz Ansari didn't have pictures, but he did have an embarrassing description of his sex life prominently published. Of course, Larry Craig got pretty publicly outed.

Katie Hill is the example of hyprocrisy. She has a point that her pictures should not have been published... but she is wrong to claim that this doesn't happen to men. If you think pictures of Rudy Giulliani, Marco Rubio or Adam Schiff smoking a bong while naked wouldn't be published... you are nuts.

However she was caught committing sexual misconduct. If you believe in equality, she should face the same public shaming as everyone else from Al Franken to Clarence Thomas.

The worst thing that happened in this case was revenge porn by Hill’s husband.

As far as we know, the next worst thing was her affair with a staffer.

Barring any unknown shite in addition to these things, the third most wrong thing was her self-serving ‘somebody be-a more culpa’ speech as she left the scene of the crime. She did bear guilt and she tried to slide out from under that.

@Lash,
I agree about the revenge porn, although something is weird about this claim. How did her ex-husband get these pictures?

The fact that Nancy Pelosi (who almost certainly knows more of the facts than we do) was unwilling to go to bat for her tells me there is more to the story. Pelosi basically told her she had to go.

If she is a feminist hero, then Pelosi is the villain.

The big word here is "accused". Our current legal system does say - innocent until proven guilty.

And as far as public shaming - it should go away. In this case, and in the cases that happened prior - let the courts handle it and determine the appropriate sentence if determined to be guilty.

Especially if it has not been determined yet whether one is guilty.

@Linkat,
Women in power should be treated the same as men in power. If you are willing to accept this principle, then we are OK.

The hypocrisy is how people treat men women who are accused of sexual misconduct in a way that is different from men. Women are human beings... as more women are in positons of power, more women will perpetrate sexual misconduct.

She should either face these charges like a man or she should go away quietly. For her to paint herself as a martyr is ridiculous.

@maxdancona,
One is removed from office, the other is appointed to the supreme court for life.

@maxdancona,
I think they’re both villains, but I’m sure that’s no surprise.

@RABEL222,
Al Franken was removed from office. So was Larry Craig.

I agree completely - in either case they should be treated the same.
