Finf the fraction greater then 1/4 and less than 3/10 that has the smallest possible denominator...
Some multiples of 4 are 8,12,16, 20, 24,28,32,36,40.
Some multiples of 10 are 20,30,40.
Let's try the common denominator 20. 1/4 = 5/20. 3/10 = 6/20. Nothing in between them.
Let's try again. The next common denominator of 4 and 10 up from 20 is 40. 1/4 = 10/40. 3/10 = 12/40.
11/20 is in between them.
Edit: Oops, typo. Should be 11/40.
The LCM of 4 and 10 is 20 and 1/4=5/20 and 3/10=6/20, but there is no integer between 5 and 6.
So try 2*20=40.
1/4=10/40 and 3/10=12/40, and 11 is between 10 and 12, so the fraction is 11/40.

1/4 = .25
3/10 = .30
No fractions of 2-6 fall into this range, but...
How about 2/7?
