And just a little in your face to Bernie, I worked with Minnie Kenny, the wife of Bill Kenny who sadly passed away in 1978. Minnie was a hell of a linguist.

@glitterbag,
"slip me a slug from the wonderful mug"
Are there any Chandler scholars here? I'm wondering if or how his dialogue might have been influenced by African American speech and slang?
One of the many ways white supremacist and racist types are so incredibly, searingly stupid is in not recognizing that erasing black influences would be like strip-mining US culture.

@farmerman,
One of my treasured CDs is Knopfler and Atkins "Neck and Neck". And one of my all-time favorite music videos is this one below. Sunday, after church, sitting around in the living room making music, family and friends the delighted audience, awkward teenage flirting, Elvis and a very strange individual with facial bandages.
Anyone else note the similarities between Knopfhler's and JJ Cale's playing?

@glitterbag,
In 1969 I was waiting three days under the Eiffel Tower for a hometown buddy to meet me (he'd been delayed by a girl, the selfish horny bastard) and I can still recall filling in the time singing/humming songs from Gris Gris. I loved that guy.
I expect Earl (we'd have been on a first name basis if he'd grown up in Chilliwack, BC) would have liked that. I wouldn't refer to it as "sublime" like the other which I did know had won a Grammy and which, I'll have you know, is actually titled Neck and Neck.
