Goin' back a few centuries for some of these acts.

I think she'd die for Beethoven
She loves the way Puccini lays down a tune
And Verdi's always creeping from her room

Keeping with my themette of acts over a century old:

Quote:
You know, my temperature's risin'
And the jukebox blows a fuse
My heart's beatin' rhythm
And my soul keeps on singin' the blues
Roll over Beethoven and tell Tchaikovsky the news

Not sure if I'm pushing my own rules - but 'Rick James Style' by the Lemonheads only says his name in the song title, nowhere in the lyrics:

Tex, Father to John Ritter, mentions many country artists. Other artists who do this song often change some of the names

There are lots of country songs that mention other artists. This one mentions Jerry Lee Lewis, Merle Haggard and others

Joan Baez performed this tribute-memorial song for Janis Joplin
(Often erroneously credited with Baez as writer, it was actually her sister, Mimi Farina)

Another from Joan Baez, Diamonds & Rust, she had stated it's about her time with Bob Dylan

@hingehead,
Now a change of mood. A load of rubbish by Stock Aitken and Waterman that insults a load of bands who are so much better than this crap, which never stood the test of time.

This one mentions a ton of acts from 1974 and earlier, and is essentially a rap song, released 5 years before Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight and 6 years before Kurtis Blow's The Breaks and Blondie's Rapture.
