A certain kind of folder was priced at $0.50 but found no buyers. The manager of the store decided to reduce the price. Within a few days, she had sold her entire stock of these folders for a total of $31.93. What was the reduced price of the folder? Use the four-fold way.

please help asap..
we're finding it hard to solve this..
this is my sister's homework...

There were 103 folders and they were sold at $0.31 , how to do it mathamatically I have no idea.

If N folders were sold for a total of 3193 cents, then
N x price = 3193

Is 3193 cents divisible by 2 cents? No. So they must not have be sold for 2 cents, huh?

Is 3193 cents divisible by 3 cents? No. So it can't be 3 cents.
Is 3193 cents evenly divided by 5 cents? No.

Keep trying to divide 3193 by something, so it comes out even.
Find it's factors.

What two numbers multipled together give you EXACTLY ... 3191 cents?



Hint: The prime numbers are
2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61, 67, 71, ...

The largest possible prime of composite 3193 is 53. Why? Because Sqrt(3193)=56 and change. 56 is not prime and the next smaller prime is 53.

BTW 3193 is a composite number composed by the primes 31 and 103.
