either one is correct. They both identify the sentence with two different contexts
"That she was able to remain calm" --Here she is revealing a condition of state.
"How she was able to remain calm"-- she is beginning to describe the actual conditions she employed to remain calm.
Different contexts in which each is correct.
You must show mor of the contextual story, prhaps the entire paragraph??
