Why isn't the inhibition of ribonucleotide reductase effective in inhibiting DNA viral replication?

Ooh, viruses...

Well, I think you'll find that mammalian cells also have ribonucleotide reductase, not just viruses.

Rnr inhibitors are just too broad to hit just the viruses.

Have you tried using Entrez Pubmed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?

It's very good for finding biological articles and finding info on genes, genomes and even proteins. I use it for all my biological essays.
