Scientific America has an ask the expert column. Here's a link to what the experts had to say about hangovers. Seems we can blame them on loud music and ciggaret smoke as much as the alcohol itself!
Hangovers
Makes me want to drink less.
!
Ok, ok, I'll be a wimp about drinking too much. There are worse things.
Kidding.
I'm one to talk, 3 beers would probably be enough for me these days.
I guess no one else is very interested in learning what a hangover is all about, eh?
i usually mix a few beers and a few shots of jack daniels with no negative effects.
good for you Pueo! Do you also drink water and eat food while you're drinking?
You can mix them all you want - its the drinking part that gets to you!
drink quite a bit of water during the day (guam is hot) and eat when i remember to.
i thinks it's the years of practice
Drinking a lot of water always helped, but what always messed me up was not eating anything before I started drinking. A sure way to a hellacious hangover.
Pueo - I bet the water helps a lot. I know if I'm well hydrated in general, I have fewer hangovers. I don't usually drink that much, and if I'm dehydrated, one glass of wine can make me feel groggy the next day.
So, Larry, you don't drink anymore?
I go in cycles. I happen to be in one now where I haven't been drinking. More from lack of opportunity than choice.
I'll drink to that Littlek
LOL
It is funny with me - some kind of alcohol can give me the mother of all hangovers, even if consumed in small quantities. Like beer (3 pints and next day my head is being chiselled away from the inside) or cheap white wine.
But give me scotch, or vodka and I can drink 9-10 pegs, and still be absolutely fine next day !! Ofcourse, I always keep a glass of water next to my drinks, and keep sipping from it.
Hangovers suck !!
