I am a bit confused so here is my question. When using a formula and you know one variable to a greater degree of accuracy and you do not know the other variable in greater accuracy can you still solve the formaula?

Yes. When you solve a formula for some variable, you are working with symbols. For example, if you solve the equation:

x^2 + 2x + 1

for x, you are solving in order to learn the value of x, so you certainly don't need to know it beforehand.
