In football/soccer does "he sank ball" make sense?

If so, what does it mean?

If not, do you have an expression that sounds similar?

Thank you

@paok1970,
I am from the US (you might want to find someone from the UK to answer this).

The phrase "he sank ball" makes no sense in the context of soccer (or football if you prefer). We use the verb "to sink" for basketball as a colorful way to describe scoring a basket, but that is a completely different sport.

Stuck it in the back of the net.
