Ocasion-Cortez is in favor of automation, and she says there is resistance to automation because people are afraid of machines taking their jobs and that people are afraid that they will be left to die without a job.

If there was less work to do, why wouldn't we just hire more people for less hours per person? If you have the economic carrying capacity to sustain a certain population level, why wouldn't you just make sure everyone gets the work done that needs to get done and allow everyone who can eat to eat?

If anything, the reason people have to fear joblessness is because there are so many people trying to achieve higher income that they take all the jobs and hours so that others end up 100% jobless.

So it's not the fault of machines but of people that other people are jobless. If everyone would just allow others to do more work by working less and taking less pay, then everyone would have income, albeit low income.

Why does everyone want to make more money so badly that they are willing to let other people go completely jobless to get more for themselves? Why does everyone think they need more?

Yes, it seems to be a new socialist idea to favor automation and focus on ways to ensure economic well-being with its fruits.

I can appreciate the idea on one level, but on another I don't think anyone, either the politicians who support it or the people who would benefit from it, would use the power responsibly.

I think people would waste more and bother even less than they already do with conservation and thrift.

When people like OC and Sanders talk about 'democratic socialism,' they ignore the fact that we have basically had a socialist economy since the New Deal and look at what all the growth and 'prosperity' has caused. There's an environmental/climate disaster to deal with and they are acting like the middle-class isn't too big and spoiled already.
