tell me - does a panacea have to be universal - or can it be a particular one?
a pan of fried, freshly-caught fish, although "un-universal," however, can be a thing of joy forever--well, for about an hour, anyway . . .
Hey, plants are responsible for the earth even being habitable for the animals. You'd think we'd show some respect for the selfless progenitors of atmospheric oxygen by not eating them.
Fish... pah.
Your pa is a fish?
Hey!
This is as good a place as any to put this - my work has lots of humour - often with a sad edge - this is one of these.
I am seeing a little boy who, in the lottery of life, got parents about as bad as any could be - especially his mum. His dad actually finally got enough sense to see what harm he was doing his kids, and surrendered custody to a wonderful couple who had been looking after them, in effect, for years.
Mum then came in wanting custody, and has dragged the kids through court for the last year. Anyway - the little fella, about eight, has suddenly found his voice about what he thinks of his mum, which is better than blaming himself, although very sad in itself.
He said to his effective mother the other night, during their nightly deep and meaningful about life, the universe and everything, "You know - I have found a way to describe my mum. She is like Cruella de Ville - nice on the outside, but mean when she thinks nobody is looking."
She controlled her amusement, and said he shouldn't talk abou ther like that - but you know what? He CAN to me!!! He can say whatever he likes! If he wants to talk about Cruella de Ville until the cows come home, he can! And ain't no puppies gonna be looked after by Cruella, if I can help it.
Though I do have great understanding about how she got to be the way she is - but it would be nice if THAT chain of abuse and horror stopped right where it is now....
GOOD FOR YOU, DEB!!!
I am standing up and cheering as I type this.
As a child protection team worker i had an abuse case that i brought to court for an immediate termination of parental rights (an unusual procedure that normally requires months if not years of legal process) putting the mother on the stand, i asked her if she agreed to having her rights as the mother terminated and she responded "of course i do, if you dont take my daughter away i will end up in prison" A bit stunned by her answer i inquired as to why she would end up in prison and she responded "Well, i will probably kill her and then you would send me to prison."
I'm so glad that there are people like you guys out there, working for children. You should be very proud of yourselves.
I agree with my nice friend Viz
yeah, i'll third that.
and, dys -- at least she was an honest woman...
Hey! I had a thought last night.
I was sort of watching the film "Heat" (Robert de Niro I would watch scratching his bum! With enthusiasm! But, I digress....) and it occurred to me that American police could save themselves HUUUUUUGE amounts of time by developing good car camouflage, and just hanging around under bridges, overpasses etc - cos, that is where ALL the crims go to discuss crimes and intra-crim politics, bump each other off, collect ill-gotten gains etc.
They did it in this film - the do it in ALL films - they do it on "The Sopranos" - which clinches the matter, as far as I am concerned.
Well? Let's hear it for the Understructures Patrol!
Whaddaya think?
WHAT?!!! You haven't had a thought since MAY?!
I just don't believe that, Deb.
Well, I have put them elsewhere. This is my random doesn't fit anywhere else think place.
So, what do you think?
i think there are people living under most of the underpasses here. the police could ask them what's going on?
Nobody lives under the RIGHT underpasses!
Is this like littlek's underwire? It's all about the left?
