Under a spreading chestnut-tree
The village smithy stands;
The smith, a mighty man is he,
With large and sinewy hands;
And the muscles of his brawny arms
Are strong as iron bands.

His hair is crisp, and black, and long,
His face is like the tan;
His brow is wet with honest sweat,
He earns whate'er he can,
And looks the whole world in the face,
For he owes not any man.

Week in, week out, from morn till night,
You can hear his bellows blow;
You can hear him swing his heavy sledge,
With measured beat and slow,
Like a sexton ringing the village bell,
When the evening sun is low.

And children coming home from school
Look in at the open door;
They love to see the flaming forge,
And hear the bellows roar,
And catch the burning sparks that fly
Like chaff from a threshing-floor.

He goes on Sunday to the church,
And sits among his boys;
He hears the parson pray and preach,
He hears his daughter's voice,
Singing in the village choir,
And it makes his heart rejoice.

It sounds to him like her mother's voice,
Singing in Paradise!
He needs must think of her once more,
How in the grave she lies;
And with his hard, rough hand he wipes
A tear out of his eyes.

Toiling,---rejoicing,---sorrowing,
Onward through life he goes;
Each morning sees some task begin,
Each evening sees it close;
Something attempted, something done,
Has earned a night's repose.

Thanks, thanks to thee, my worthy friend,
For the lesson thou hast taught!
Thus at the flaming forge of life
Our fortunes must be wrought;
Thus on its sounding anvil shaped
Each burning deed and thought.

Thinking again today....

Why do our parents still treat us like kids, even though we are mature (??) adults ? Now my mum is pretty upset after hearing my teething problems and wants me to come back to India !!!

A treatise on Friday by Unicorn -copyright and copyleft

What is it about fridays that makes us all cheer and cheerful(interesting expression ) ?

We wish each other a good weekend and what do we do, sit in front of the telly, water the garden, go to church (maybe not), (increasingly) shop. Where is the adventure in us, I'm not talking bungee (sp ?) jumping here. Why not go to the airport and buy a ticket for the first destination you see on the flights out board ?
Write a book and get it published, take off all your clothes and send them to a charity, spend the rest of the weekend au naturelle. Design a device for measuring the thickness of Orange Peel. Make Orange wine and send me a couple of bottles. Invite all your a2k buddies to post their photos anonymously here on a new thread and work out who is who ? Now that last one mught be a runner -what do you think peeps ?

Spend Sunday playing Yahoo Word racer and see if your eyes will open the next day-better do that on Saturday otherwise you won't get to work on Monday.

Next week a treatise on Monday and why we are all scared ****less of it-watch this space or you could paint it or varnish it or - get off Hiama you're times up- Ok bye peeps

Notice on a local farm:

" Anybody trespassing on this land will have action taken against them that will utterly astonish them " hehehe
