Well done Dagmar!

Yesterday, I went to the funeral of a friend's father. He was born in 1925 into an almost Victorian society in the little factory town of Tiverton, in England's West Country. He was forced to leave school at twelve, and go into the factory - when it was working - it was post-depression then, and still very tight economically in England.

He joined up as soon as he could for WWII - and had a life-long admiration for Churchill - the only conservative ever to earn his esteem, for he was a union and Labor man through and through - and remained so until his death.

After the war, in 1959, he and his wife and two of the kids (one of whom is me friend, Kevin) moved to Australia. What a brave thing to do - leave your country and sail halfway round the world! So many brave people in all ages doing that.

Well, more kids got born and Lou was happily married for 53 years. His kids love him, so do their partners, so do a lot of friends, so do all the grand-kids, who were vocal at the service.

My closest friend, Steph, who is Kevin's better bit, cried today to me on the phone. I'm going to miss him so much, she said, you could have a good argument with him about just about everything, and he was a very kind man.

I was wondering what they would say at my funeral.

I would be pretty pleased with what they said about Lou.

A very moving post, Deb.
Funny, but I think I'll miss Lou, too! .... Obviously not THE Lou, your Lou, who I've never met, but that sort of "salt of the earth" person. Those oldies are fast vanishing & sadly, they don't make them like that any more. My father was rather like that, too.
You must feel you've lost someone very special.

Dlowan, so sorry. My father had a dear friend like that. It's been years since he died, I still miss him.

Well, I was thinking, (happy now Deb?, you have no idea what you've started!)

Since there doesn't seem to be enough police to take care of problem drivers, maybe the drivers with perfect driving records (Like Me! Shocked Very Happy ), should be given the power to give out traffic violation tickets!
In the past two days, I've been witness to so much bad driving,.."bad" isn't the best word,..I think "Uncaring, fool-hearted driving" fits better. People not even paying attention, flying through obvious red lights, not waiting for pedestrians, not allowing other drivers to merge, it's a lack of courtesy that is just plain shameful.
The same goes for mindless pedestrians, who think that they have the right of way, no matter what,..and it simply isn't true. They have the right of way, in a crosswalk, with the proper signal,....not ok to just walk out into traffic without looking.

Jerry! You is thinking now!

I am thinking that it is time for Oscar, one of my cats, to fly (assisted flying) from the balcony if he does not shut up!

Hiama wants to be known as a temptress? Hmmmmmm....interesting...

Margo - I woke Oscar!

Hiama - I do not speak Latin - huh?

I was thinking about funerals again, not that it's gonna be worrying ME....but, I have such disparate groups of friends, many of whom do not really know each other particularly - now, I am pretty much myself with everyone, but different aspects are featured. There is work me - nuts, but very serious about the work - there are mes for different groups of friends - and me online - it's got to be very confusing....confuses me sometimes...
