Calling all Grammarians, I need your help! I am embarrassed to say I am stumped on a sentence from my 3rd grader's homework this evening. The sentence is: The air smells salty because of the ocean. In this sentence, is the word "salty" an adjective describing the air or is it an adverb describing the verb "smells"? Thank you!

@tgeor724,
“Smells” is one of those words that is a linking verb. Study that particular word as a verb for the answer to your question.
