Crone Flower Child needs help E-shopping for New Wardrobe

Help!

The last of my Sunday-Go-To-Meeting, pseudo peasant garments has been consigned to the rag bag. (One of the advantages of wearing all-cotton or mostly-cotton is that they make great cleaning cloths).

I need a new wardrobe.

Since I'm a wee bit peculiar and believe in truth-in-advertising I like to wear vaguely ethnic garments, loose but picturesque.

Think: Recycled Flower Child.

Shopping locally in Bricks & Mortar stores has been futile. Can anyone suggest some Internet sites with the sort of clothes I fancy?

Brooks Brothers and LL Bean have worked out pretty well, though Brooks is a little steep for my budget.

I'd like to help, but I have no sense of style. Will hang around to see what others recommend, though.

sierratradingpost.com often has interesting options

phooey - can't get the image in here

Quote:
Feminine two-piece dress from Orvis embodies the beauty and refinement you love in a linen blend. The perfect casual spring look for the office.
¾ sleeves with ties.
Top is fitted, with a small collar.
Button-front.
Skirt has pull-on elastic waist with on-seam pockets, back slit.
Skirt length: 31" with 10" back slit.

(from their Bargain Barn - errr, if you didn't know, I don't do regular retail)

I'm loving eShakti! Apparently -- I haven't absolutely confirmed this yet -- you can get things custom-fit for no extra charge. $29.95 for plain ol' small/medium/large, $29.95 for precisely your measurements with an added option of slim fit (measurements plus 2 inches) or easy fit (measurements plus 4 inches). How very cool!!

I posted the eshakti outfit I'm dreaming of in the what are you wearing thread a couple of days ago.

When I ran it through some modifications - the check out gave me the same amount before and after. Haven't hit [enter] yet, though.

I never could get into the flower child look, as those clothes made me look like a beach umbrella. Laughing

Anyhow, I looked around, and this site looks like it may have some possibilities. Will look some more.

First place to Sozobe and second place (very unusual in a research contest) to Phoenix. Those sites have exactly the sort of dated wispiness I'm looking for. I don't mind looking a bit like an embroidered toadstool.

Roger--

You are a man of the mainstream.

EhBeth--

At first glimpse, your sites seem to emphasize current styles rather than a fashionable time warp. I'll check further.

Thank you all. I'm considerably cheered about tackling this refurbishing project.

Phoenix--

Love Champashop. You and Sozobe are neck in neck and I'm in hog heaven.

I saw a clothing catalogue, today, that reminded me of Sozobe. If I can get my connection to work properly, I'll look for a link.

One skirt reminded me of Soz, one outfit remided me of Dag.

I guess I shouldn't post the link, eh? What about the TOS, y'all?

The store name is Soft Surroundings.

A really excellent opportunity (thrift) shop can be a great help, too! Very Happy

Green Witch--

Thanks. If 'twere done, 'twere well done thoroughly.

Ms. Olga--

Local thrift shops are...um....polyester sells.

Little K--

As I understand the TOS, links are ok--unless you happen to own Soft Surroundings or are paid by them to advertise. After all you are helping a semi-naked-woman-in-need.

I'm a horrible shopper and have no online site to recommend BUT if you will come to Portland I will take you to the fabulous hippie haven the Saturday Market (http://www.saturdaymarket.org/Main%20Pages/Craft%20Pages/ClothingAndAccessories/clothing.htm) and we can hit 23rd street.

(Watch the pendant swing..... close your eyes and count backwards from 100..... you WILL go to Portland..... you WILL go to Portland..... breath deeply..... relax.... you WILL go to Porltand......)
