Formula
They don't reach because the angles aren't 60 degrees.

To find area:
First calculate the semiperimeter = S = (A + B + C)/2
Next use the following formula:

Area = SQRT( S*(S-A)*(S-B)*(S-C) )

Ive put angles in of 60 degrees.

Cut out the sides, then arrange them in a triangle. Then measure the base and height, and use area=1/2*base*height.

Or use engineers solution, which is much more elegant.

Thanks but that formula looks like pretty shapes and letters to me.

I think you'll find Heron's Formula fundamentally easier than trying to find the height of a triangle that has unknown angles.

A, B & C are the length's of the legs.
