My mother is attracted to clothing and jewelry which don't suit her. I thought of buying her a new spring sweater, or shirt.

My brother is a photographer, owns a Miata, loves to cook... he doesn't have lots of spare cash since he bought his condo, but he still seems to buy himself anything he might need (unless it's too expensive for me to buy him anyway). My sister bought him a character toy from The Incredibles.

Here are some links, k:

http://www.dreamtime.net.au/indigenous/spirituality.cfm

http://www.experiencefestival.com/aboriginal_spirituality

http://www.smc.qld.edu.au/aboriginal_spirituality.htm

Very briefly, to the limit of my poor understanding, Aboriginal sacred stories are centred on the land around them - and many features of landscape are associated with stories of creation, lessons for living etc.

Walking through these landscapes, for those who know the stories, is being in touch with the sacred stories and the past - which is very deep in Oz - an ongoing, living culture for 50, 000 od dyears - fractured by white invasion.

Littlek, I think you should take your brother out for dinner, or get him a gift certificate to some nice place where he can go with his wife or girlfriend (if he has one...is he gay? I thought I heard you say that once on some thread).

Just a thought...

So have you ever thought of doing one? For some reason, I don't see you as a walkabout-er.

dlowan, I have long found the tweaking of colonial relgion by natives to be interesting. Those links will have to wait til another day for further reading. It's nearly 2am here.

When I was in Oz, I bought a book for Silvi - I thought it was one story of a series of native lore. Turns out it was one part of one story. Anyway, there were lakes and hills, hunting and hiding tricks, ancestors, etc in the book. I should find it next week and look at it again.

Kicky, I was thinking about telling him I'd make him dinner. I have given him 2 gift cards in the past, he lost one and let the other expire. I had a couple of really good gifts for him in the past. I have chcolate soap for him already, but obviously that isn't quite enough. (he is gay)

Well, it would not have the meaning for me - since only initiated people know - and can know - any but the least important stories.

But I like to see country - not long back from the Centre.

There's still a connect between any human and nature - or there should be. I'd feel badly for a person if there wasn't some little thrill at sitting in a beautiful landscape.

Oy! Religion threads, I had enough of them for the 2 days this week I was involved with them.

My brother and my housemate (the good one) get along really well and we have had him over for dinner a few times. We could do it again for his bday, but it wouldn't be unique. Plus, he's already coming over a week from sunday to attend a bday dinner for said housemate.

Hehehe...sometimes those threads are just begging for someone to come in and say something like that...no you shouldn't edit it out.

Of course, you know me though, I love to jump into a big serious discussion with some smartass comment. It's one of the great pleasures I get from this site.

(And does WTF count as sexual innuendo? And if you don't want innuendo, what are you doing with a word like innuendo in the thread title?)

And how can I take you seriously about the no hugs thing when you're dressed like a bunny?

Sere. Ha. It'll lerve you right (and sere you wrong) if you get a buncha hippies in here....

His is the 11th, my mother's was today (the 8th). We're having a family dinner tomorrow evening. I don't think he reads much. It's too bad, I love giving books.

Lerve is love done been round too wearisomely much.

WTF is very borderline. I have the fire extinguisher at the ready. And I may mention innuendo to ban it, so go experience hubris and get zapped.

And I am not wearing a bunny suit - I AM a Bunny - otherwise known as a Pooka - and I am 5' 6' and armed to the teeth, so watch it.

Now - do you want persiflage and a martini, or trouble?
