What audience is the speech for? The kids, the parents, or your department?
If your audience is the kids, you might start out with a minute on where numbers originated in history, as people had to count supplies and livestock, and how it took them a long time to accept zero as a number. On the other hand, with only 3 to 4 minutes for the entire talk, perhaps you should get right down to business.
It would be helpful to know the age group of the kids and how basic the math is. What is the lesson that you learned (or will learn) this semester?
