So think of this guys, a relationship that you thought was gonna be forever and ever- till death do you part- Cory and Topanga Forever- kinda relationship just ended and every love song on the radio makes you think of Him and how much you miss him and wish things were different.. and you need some good I'm-Single-Now-And-I'll-Be-Fine kinda music.. got any suggestions?
The End of the Affair - Prefab Sprout - postmodern pop
Actually Prefab Sprout have quite a few on that theme.
Not sure how appropriate it is to the rest of the world, but i find
The Young and the Hopeless by Good Charlotte a good track just cos it's a big 2 fingers up at everybody else and kinda, i'm better than you think i am. I'll post some more when i'm not thinking @ 11pm with flu
Alanis Morisette "You Oughta Know"
Ray Charles "Hit the Road Jack"
Koko Taylor "You Can Have My Husband (but please don't mess with my man)"
My ultimate feel good girl song?
The Pretenders "Brass in Pocket"
Carole King "It's Too Late"
The Beatles "For No One"
Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive"
Ugly Kid Joe "I Hate Everything About You"
Bob Dylan "Don't Think Twice It's Alright"
....and an old song of Helen Reddy "I am woman, hear me roar"
Good one CJane!
Meatloaf's "Two Out of Three" contains one of my favorite breakup lines...
I want you, I need you
But there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you
Haha boomerang, that indeed is a great line
For spite I recommend Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine. The entire album seems fueled by a bad breakup.
On a getting on sort of tune check out:
Save Ferris' Mistaken
There's no joy without the pain
It's the pain that makes us strong
But sometimes it's just so hard to carry on
When you said that you don't care
When you say that you'll be there
Well, I wonder just how did things go so wrong
With everything we've had
(Oh please tell me)
And you know it's just so sad
But who's to blame?
[Chorus:]
(I was mistaken)
So who were you?
I thought I knew?
I guess I was mistaken
But I only wanted you
(I was mistaken)
So say goodbye
Don't tell me why
I guess I was mistaken
I know I can't run to you again
Cuz' you would only run away
I guess there's nothing I can do to make you stay
You said that you would never leave
A lie you told and I believed
And now you want to go and throw this all away
So what is happening here?
(Oh please tell me)
It's exactly as I feared
You're just the same, and
[Repeat Chorus]
As I blame myself again
Wondering what I did
You tell me that you still might care for me
You say you're just confused
But that's really no excuse
You don't get sympathy
Cuz' I don't need this mindtrip,
I must be myself
Must free myself from you
And all you put me through
[Repeat Chorus]
Cuz' I only wanted you
Wow.. excellent suggestions so far.. anyone think that the early Gwen Stephani is good as well?
I refer to "Don't Speak" and "Ex-Girlfriend" and the like
"Baby Can I Change My Mind?"- Tyrone Davis...That was personal to me.
Then on my last break-up, I heard a song, that was very appropo. I only heard it once, and I remember only the first line... "If you thi-i-i-nk I'm not leavin', ..Just count the days I'm gone,...It was by Charlie and Inez Foxx.
Could be-"You Hurt Me For The Last Time"
Nillson's "You're Breaking My Heart" is fannnntastic, if you don't mind a curseword or two.
Oh I love that song Phoenix but unfortunately all she does is cry.
How about Blondie's "Just Go Away"?
Or the Guess Who's "American Woman"?
two come to mind
Divorce Song
Liz Phair
And when I asked for a separate room
It was late at night, and we'd been driving since noon
But if I'd known how that would sound to you
I would have stayed in your bed for the rest of my life
Just to prove I was right
That it's harder to be friends than lovers
And you shouldn't try to mix the two
'Cause if you do it and you're still unhappy
Then you know that the problem is you
And it's true that I stole your lighter
And it's also true that I lost the map
But when you said that I wasn't worth talking to
I had to take your word on that
But if you'd known how that would sound to me
You would have taken it back
And boxed it up and buried it in the ground
Boxed it up and buried it in the ground
Boxed it up and buried it in the ground
Burned it up and thrown it away
You put in my hands a loaded gun
And then told me not to fire it
When you did the things you said were up to me
And then accused me of trying to f**k it up
But you've never been a waste of my time
It's never been a drag
So take a deep breath and count back from ten
And maybe you'll be alright
And the license said you had to stick around until I was dead
But if you're tired of looking at my face, I guess I already am
But you've never been a waste of my time
It's never been a drag
So take a deep breath and count back from ten
And maybe you'll be alright

Sorry
Nerf Herder
Sorry we broke up, sorry I missed you
Sorry I wanted only to kiss you
Sorry I promised to love you forever
Made you feel guilty oh when you left me
Sorry I showed up at your party
Sorry I drank up all the Bacardi
Sorry I puked up on your bedspread
Sorry I wanted to be your boyfriend again
What can I do?
It's over it's over it's over it's over
What can I do?
I am the loser
Sorry I saw you and I heard birds sing
Sorry I touched you and I heard bells ring
Sorry I jacked off outside of your window
While you were sleeping, I thought you'd never know
Sorry I showed up at your wedding
Sorry I tried so hard to get in
Sorry I screwed up your picture
Sorry I had sex with your sister
What can I do?
It's over, it's over, it's over, it's over
What can I do?
I am the loser
Sorry we broke up, sorry I missed you
Sorry I wanted only to kiss you
Sorry I promised to love you forever
Made you feel guilty oh when you left me
Sorry I showed up at your dinner
Sorry I said those things to your father
Sorry I crashed through your window on acid
Sorry I made a mess
Sorry I bled to death
What can I do?
It's over it's over it's over it's over
What can I do?
I am the loser
Phoenix,
With "Bell", you reminded me of "Suppertime" by Barbra Streisand.
Joni Mitchell wrote a grea line:
But when he's gone
Me and them lonesome blues collide
The bed's too big
The frying pan's too wide
