@McGentrix,
Dangit. I sat here with something nagging the back of my brain and I figured it out... Bonanza, not Ponderosa.

As much as I like Tim Conway, my real TV hero is Paladin.

@edgarblythe,
Paladin was great, a hired hitman who instead of shooting his victim would talk them to death.

@coluber2001,
That's an old joke that's not true at all. He shot if necessary, same as any other gunfighter.

@edgarblythe,
Actually, "Have Gun Will Travel" was a pretty good show in a sea of penny dreadful oaters of the 50s.

Festus Haggen was an illiterate, seemingly dumb deputy sheriff on Gunsmoke who was wiser and more good-natured than any other character on the show including Matt Dillon. The character, Festus, gradually began to overshadow Dillon as the main protagonist on the show.

@coluber2001,
After so many years, the original cast needed a rest. Plus they had mined those characters so long Festus added a new dimension.

@edgarblythe,
George Reeves alias Superman

Was he or was he not the brother of Steeve Reeves alias Hercules?

@edgarblythe,
I had forgotten how much I liked Palladin and how good the show actually was...even from today's vantage point. I've been watching the episode you posted for the last 10 mins.

@farmerman,
I recall the Ponderosa's Chinese cook being called Hey Boy, I think. Looking it up now.

Hey Boy worked in the San Francisco hotel where Paladin played. Near the end he was replaced by Hey Girl.

There is a follow up episode in which Ken Curtis follows him to San Francisco.
