Microphone for cassette-corder

I have a new Sony cassette-corder (WM-500DV) and as such things go it's got relatively little background noise. However, I suspect that an external, plug-in mike would cut down on such noise considerably. SO - 1) am I right? and 2) any specific brand/model recommendations? The mike must be low impedance - less than 3k omega.

A cheap dynamic mic from Radio Shack will sort you out.
It's on cassette so getting an SM57 will be massive overkill.
