Is it too much to ask...

...that each day, when I wake up in my overpriced little shitbox of an apartment and go to take a shower, that there be F*CKING HOT WATER?!

And to think, this apartment is actually, compared to my last apartment, a palace. When I lived in my last apartment, the hot water would not be working at least twice a year. In this one, it only has happened once every other year. I should be thankful to be paying over $1200 to live in this f*cking dump. Plus, in my last apartment, if I turned on my air conditioning, the electricity would go out in the whole building. That was really fun.

I love this city, but I've been trying to convince myself to move, because I just can't afford to live the lifestyle I want here. And today, once again, I have found another example of this. I should be thankful.

I'm moving out of this f*cking city!!!

1200 dollars and no hot water?
Shocked

for 1200 in Tx, you could get a 2-3 bedroom home with HOT water forever, a yard and something we call a GARAGE... for your car.. in Ny you dont have those do ya? ;-)

Not in Manhattan, unless you are a multi-millionaire. You see what I'm sayin'?

European cities often have all the things you love about New York -- if those are the same things I love about New York (public transport, lots of cafes and restaurants, good food, people everywhere, good energy, etc...). And they can be a bit cheaper.

austin has been compared to NY by alot of people from ny.
they say it is a survivable enjoyable QUIETER version.
we have the live music, great public transportation ( you can survive here very well with out a car) strange off the wall shops, diversity, etc...
Just not the millions of taxi's and useless cars littering the road ways.
People actually say HI to each other here and if you want silence at night, just GO HOME. You dont have to hear the sound of a 24 hour city in your bedroom.

Yes, Kicky it is too much to ask. Why would you want hot water anyway? It's over rated.

(I too have a hot water problem in my apt....whenever the person above me turns on water, flushes the toilet, all water pressure goes and I get a cold trickle)

I don't know exactly where I want to live. I'm not sure if I should move somewhere totally new, like Austin or California or something like that, or just go back to Florida, where I lived already. Maybe somewhere near Miami. I know that I want to be somewhere without such a horrible winter--somewhere warm, where the basics in life aren't considered luxuries. I love all the stuff that FreeDuck mentioned though...the diversity, the cafes, the people, the energy of the city.

I think I'd like to live somewhere where I could actually not be living in a fantasy world when I think about eventually buying a double and having most of my mortgage paid off by my tenant. In New York, that scenario is a pipe dream.

Oh, and it would be nice to have hot f*cking water every day.

There are many cities that have alot of ' life' to them and dont have the over crowding of new york.
If i were in your shoes, I would vote for moving somewhere comepletely diffrent. Nothing like a fresh slate to clear the psyche of someone.
It is energizing to just drop it all and run. Stop where ever and start again. You can create a new life and a new you.
Maybe even get laid.
Embarrassed
did I say that? ;-) hehehehe
im just f-n with ya.
But seriously.. people get into a rut. One of the things that effects who/how you are is where you live. Dont believe me? Talk to someone from the country. Thier attitude, behaviors everything about them is diffrent. Not just because they are diffrent people, the energy of where they live fuels them. You know how when you go see someone in a diffrent state, YOU feel diffrent? Well.. get that with MOVING!

And please shut up about how nice Austin is. We have a nice thing going, and don't need to ruin it by another influx of ferriners. (Except Kicky... he's not so bad, for a Yankee.)

I wish we could get Sandra Bullock to shut up. There she was on the Daily Show yackin' again about how great Austin is.

Austin SUCKS! Austin SUCKS! Do NOT move here! 98 degree summers! 95% humidity! BATS! Mosquitos the size of your hand! Stay AWAY!

( mumbling secrets...)
yeah, you are right austin sucks.

we will make room for kicky..
anyone else better be ready for dogs crapping on thier yards, goodwill knocking on thier door for donations at 2 in the morning, Whole Foods being the only shop in town, pollution out the wazoo.. and Lance Armstrong leaving tire tracks on your sidewalk.

The worst thing about Austin is that it is in Texas.

Kicky, you might like Atlanta. It's still a very affordable major urban area and has a lot of the things I like about New York. The public transportation is not as nice as other cities, but it's there.

I did like the bit about Austin being the equivalent of the whole state of California.

For some reason, I have never even considered moving to Texas. I don't know why that is.

I could see maybe going to Vegas, or somewhere in Arizona, or some other place out in the desert southwest possibly, but not Texas. Maybe it's that annoying Texas accent.
