Hello, can anyone help me rearrange this equation:

P*cos(theta) = tan(alpha) * [ mg - P*sin(theta) ]

to get:

P = [ mg*sin(alpha) ] / [ cos (theta - alpha) ]

Working appreciated thanks! Very Happy

It reduces to the angle difference formula for Cosines
e.g. Cos(a-b)=Sin(a)Sin(b)+Cos(a)Cos(b)

No, put your function P into the equation, remember that tan=sin/cos, factor out common variables and rearrange to separate the trig variables. And the angle difference formula is the result.
