French version,

Le pénitencier

Les portes du pénitencier
Bientôt vont se fermer
Et c'est là que je finirai ma vie
Comm'd'autres gars l'ont finie
Pour moi ma mère a donné
Sa robe de mariée
Peux-tu jamais me pardonner

Merci, mon ami. I sing karaoke on Friday night and have never sung House of the Rising Sun but believe I'll try it this Friday.

Il n'y a pas de quoi, Bob!

As I follow the WA2k thread I know you sing Karaoke. That's why I post you this lyrics.

Hey panzade. The next time I'm in Florida, you play it and I'll sing it. We should clear the area in no time.

I have that song on a record. Not one of you modern looking LPs either, but a genuine 45.

Do me a favor Roger. Under the title of the song, who's listed as composer?

Allan Klein Records...ok this is a newer version. The old MGM labels listed Alan Price as the writer...lol. He made a killing off residuals.

The hungarian version

A Felkelõ Nap Háza

-The house of the rising sun -

Ez itt, ez a ház a Felkelõ Nap Háza,

A kocsma, mely éveken át

Otthont adott sok régi jó barátnak,

Feledést New Orleans mocsarán.

Anyám csak varrta a város ruháit,

És varrta a farmerokat,

Apám csak ivott és vesztett a kártyán,

S a sírban is vesztes maradt.

Dolgozott, míg bírta, hisz kellett az ital,

A kocsma kifutója volt,

De fáradt karja a munkára nehéz volt,

S a mámor erõt rabolt.

Anyám már megmondta régen nekem,

Ne hagyd becsapni magad,

Messzirõl kerüld el a Felkelõ Nap Házát

Tetteid takarja szavad.

Most újra itt vagyok a régi kocsmában,

Kifutó, mint régen apám.

Dolgozom, iszom és vesztek a kártyán,

S a fiam is így nõ fel talán.

The ever enthusiastic T. J. Lubinsky recently did a 60s show for fund-raising purposes on PBS. One of the high spots of the show was Eric Burden singing, "House of the Rising Son." He looked like a grandfather, but he still had the vocal chops.

FIVE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA - AMAZING GRACE.

This song is sung to the tune "House of the Rising Son" and it is remarkable gospel music.
