Are Red Tide and Tropical depression by Jeff Lindsay any good?, I've read the plot of the books and to me it sounds like Jeff's version of Odd Thomas. I liked the Dexter books, but with this new series I'm unsure.

Try reading one of the books. Reading a plot outline doesn't offer the same feel you can get from an actual read. If you find it's not what you want, at least you gave it a go.
