Hmm...

I know it's dutch, but it's one of the finest songs dedicated to fathers that I know. In the Netherlands, we have a top 2000 in the week and a half between christmas and new year. In that time, the 2000 best songs (as voted by the listeners) are presented, and this song always charts high.

Here are the lyrics in English

Stef Bos - Papa

I have the same eyes
and I am getting your features around my mouth
I used to be angry
you used to be angry
but we have found our peace

And we are sitting next to each other
And don't really say all that much
For everything you do
I have the same ritual

Daddy, I become more and more like you

I have the same hands
And I get your wrinkles in my skin
You have your ideas
I have my ideas
And we wander in our thoughts

But we always return home
The truth you've been looking for
And that you never found
I'm also looking for it
and without success
For as long as I live

Because daddy, I become more and more like you

You could be strict in the past
And God! I hated you at times
But your words
They are now forming on my lips
And now I speak
Like you used to in the past

I have a godless faith
And I love every woman
And maybe I became
Nothing at all like you wanted

But daddy, I become more and more like you

You believe in God
So you'll go to heaven
And I believe in nothing
So we will never, after we die,
after we die we will never meet

But daddy,
I love you more and more.

I have a godless faith
And I love every woman
And maybe I became
Nothing at all like you wanted
But daddy, I become more and more like you

Oh daddy, I love you more and more

Daddy, I become more and more like you

I was blessed beyond all understanding with my dad, but I saw this, and thought someone might like it.

Both my primary lovers in life had significant dad issues.

They both had one song that told their stories.

This was one, based on an early wrenching divorce.

My heart goes out to people still hurt by dad leaving.

@edgarblythe,
No figurative language to decipher here.
