Get the reddish gold blonde

I went to a new “Colorist” NOT! My hair was damaged from having a body wave over highlights months back. I just wanted it cut and my gray roots touched up. Stylist (I say that not believing it) said ok we will condition and hi and low lite still not understanding how this can be better. I stated I fo not want my hair to be red or ash ... I like brown and blonde. I have dark strawberry at the best now. Wondering if there is anyway to turn this red, blonde without much more damage it’s almost like straw now. I forgot to mention I’m over 50 and my hair is fine and now shoulder length with layers.
