Hello, here are a few questions try to work out the gradient of each line and the coordinates of the point where the line cuts the y axis...
a) y= x-4
b) y= 8-x
c) y=2x + 1
d) y= 3-5x
e) y + x + 1 = 0
f) 1/2x - y - 3 = 0
g) y= 7
h) 3x - y = 0
Good luck!!
lemme guess, homework right?
All of these lines can be put in a form known as slope-intercept form. It is given by the equation y=mx+b. Since the line will cut the y-axis when x is 0, y=m(0)+b=b, so the y-intercept is b. The gradient(also known as slope) is always equal to m. From that, you should be able to figure out your homework, assuming you know basic algebra.
Thx, I have figured a couple of em out though, i just need a bit of confimation that I'm getting it right, and thought people might also want something to do.... Thx again...
ok. Post answers and I'll tell you if you're right or not.
I need to get my sheets back...my maths teacher has kept them for some reason...or lost them perhaps...
