How can I keep birds away from my dogs?

I have two small yorkies and we just moved out of the city a few months ago. I am afraid to let them in the backyard because there are always hawks and often vultures hanging out in the trees. We have heard that they sometimes pick up small animals. Does anyone know a way to keep the hawks and vultures away from the back yard?

Thanks!

Can you stay outside with your dogs while they're out?

I'd suggest having an enclosed cage or run for the dogs, so the birds couldn't get at them.

you need one more dog, a Komondoor, or Pyrenees. Hell be a "bouncer"
PS, you should ask yourself. Now why are buzzrds hanging around my place? Do you have cadavers lying about? Or do you live in Piedmont Virginia?
