What element would you use to create a chemical reaction that would seperate sodium from cloride. Is there such an element that I could get ahold of (I.E. buy legally from the internet, or at a store) that would not cost a huge massive amount of money, and would the separting process be dangerous? Then after separation, I know I would have to put the sodium in oil to make sure it has no reaction with the air.
thanks, if anyone else has any more info, it would be helpful.
I would suggest starting with sodium hydroxide rather than sodium chloride. The hydroxide has a much lower melting point and you won't be producing chlorine gas as a byproduct.
Then it's a matter of electrolysis. Get the stuff boiling put a current through it and little flecks of sodium will start floating to the top.
Be careful, sodium, high temperature and electricity can all be dangerous.
phhhhh..... yea ive pretty much given up on this idea, after reading that manufacturing article. I guess i would need to make some kind of contraption and then get it really really hot which probably isnt going to happen
