I believe there is an organization in the United States that once does reviews of some of the audits it has performed on corporate clients and then issues a report card of some sort.

What is the name of the organization? How can I access the rating of a given CPA firm?

@gollum,
The SEC may be the ones at the Federal level for overseeing these companies; as they do this when it comes to accounting firms.

As to ranking or rating of a particular company, I do not know.

@Sturgis,
Also, any state or federal agency with taxing authority can and sometimes will audit either companies or accounting firms. I went through a state level labor department audit. Their hook is that they collect unemployment insurance premiums, but that extends to anyone being paid by the company that was not taxed as wages - like contract employees and dividend recipients. I'm happy to say it went so slick the auditor wrapped it up in one day.

I don't know about rating CPA firms, either.

@Sturgis,
Sturgis and Roger-

Thank you.

I think I found the answer. The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.
