I read in a magazine that 85% of tornadoes come from the southwest. Why does this occur?

"Tornado Alley" is really in the mid-west or central USA. The Rocky mountains, the Gulf of Mexico and the Great Plains all play a part in the high incidence of tornados in that part of the country.
