A real treat today. The song is The Peanut Vendor by Stan Kenton and the Four Freshmen. It is off of the Roadshow albumn recorded live at Purdue University. If you listen real carefully you can hear my dad clapping in the background
I saw the Four Seniors 10 years ago. One of the best concerts ever.
I wonder if there are Four Sophomores and Four Juniors too
Sticking with the jazz theme, but a little more mellow today.
Song of the day is:
Listen Here by Eddie Harris
A little something to get you going this morning:
Chesterfield King - Jawbreaker
Song of the day:
Acuff-Rose by Uncle Tupelo
More Than Toast - The Mr. T Experience
Great choices, once again, jp. Uncle Tupelo was one of my favs. I love The Mr. T Exp cut. They are new to me.
If you want to check out anymore MTX (Mr. T Experience) listen to "Our Bodies Ourselves" and "Love is Dead" albumns. Good stuff.
Song of the Day:
No Children by The Mountain Goats
That was great. I don't know the name but do they have a song about a guy in a kilt who wins first prize? You will either be confused or amused by this.
I found the lyrics but I don't know who sang it, it sounds like it could be the mountain goats.
Well a Scotsman clad in kilt left a bar one evening fair
and one could tell by how he walked that he'd drunk more than his share.
He fumbled round until he could no longer keep his feet
and he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.
Ring di-didle-idle-a-di-oh,
Ring di-diddly-i-oh!
As he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.
About that time 2 young and lovely girls just happened by,
and one says to the other with a twinkle in her eye,
"See yon sleeping Scotsman, so strong and handsome built,
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt."
Ring di-didle-idle-a-di-oh,
Ring di-diddly-i-oh!
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt.
They crept up on that sleeping Scotsman quiet as could be,
lifted up his kilt about an inch so they could see,
and there behold for them to view, beneath his scottish skirt
was nothing more than God had graced him with upon his birth.
Ring di-didle-idle-a-di-oh,
Ring di-diddly-i-oh!
W as nothing more than God had graced him with upon his birth.
They marveled for a moment then one said, "We must be gone,
let's leave a present for our friend before we move along."
As a gift they left a blue silk ribbon tied into a bow
around the bonny star that Scot's kilt did lift and show.
Ring di-didle-idle-a-di-oh,
Ring di-diddly-i-oh!
A round the bonny star that Scot's kilt did lift and show.
Now the Scotsman woke to nature's call and stumbled t'words a tree,
behind the bush he lifts his kilt and gawks at what he sees,
and in a startled voice he says to what's before his eyes,
"Oh lad I don't know where you've been but I see you won first prize."
Ring di-didle-idle-a-di-oh,
Ring di-diddly-i-oh!
Oh lad I don't know where you've been but I see you won first prize!
Oh what a cool idea. And I missed the Dead Milkmen and everything.
hang around nimh... if you ask nicely I might put it up as the bonus song of the day...

I've heard that as a joke but never a song.
When things get stale and I need a change I like to pop this song in for inspiration. I hope we all find what we are looking for:
