Introduction to Hungarian

When are you going, and how much time will you have to explore?
Can't help you there, but have a nice trip :-)
Hi SP, I have been to Hungary many a time, I live in the neighborhood... You MUST check out Buda part of Budapest, the part with little winding roads going up hill around the castle, it is very charming. THat is, if you will be in Hungary. I would also stay away from touristy places for they can rip you off with prices being threefold. I'd go where it seems that most people inside are Hungarian themselves. Try Halaszle, it's delicious and Hungarian red wine or sweet desert Tokai wine are a must as well. Beware of Taxi drivers, some of their meters can be very very fast - I would only call a taxi with a phone, don't haul them on the street. Once they see a foreigner, American in particular, they take him for a long ride. Hmmm, there are many interesting things to do, if you want to do something specific, just ask. Will you have time to travel a little out of town? Countryside is beautiful. I am quite envious, I'd go to Hungary in a jiffy. Instead I go to bed.
ehm, i really should go to bed. the third line from the top meant to say "that is if you will be in Budapest" of course.
Tata, the city of waters
just realized you'll be in Tata, near the Balaton Lake. You need no advice, just roam around, it is sooo beautiful!
SP, I'd love to be in your shoes for this trip!
SP, enjoy Budapest - I lived there for a short time some years ago - saw quite a bit of the city - unfortunately, having a very bad short term memory (and travelling so much after that) have forgotten quite a bit of the place - except for the lovely Buda side of the city - Vaci Utca, the main square and the funicular railway.
Rumor mill has it that I might be transferred to Hungary by the end of this year, and I am so thrilled !!!
Thanks all, so far...
We'll be there almost two weeks. I think there will be some time to tramp around Budapest, but certainly I will try to hike around the lake.
Company I work for has a plant in Tata where they will soom be producing parts for laser printer cartidges. I am to set up inspection machinery.
if you're not a vegetarian, taste the outstanding Csaba sausage. You should also stock up on home grown hungarian csipos paprika, very spicy, with a unique flavor, in they countryside near the main roads you should find plenty of little open markets and stands. Mustard is another thing, you will not find anything close to it here. And those laser printer cartriges are also oh so beautiful over there. Hope you'll get to meet some natives, they're a lot of fun, they can be very sentimental, too. Hungary has the highest rate of suicide in the world.... watch out!
How was it, how was it? Were you fascinated and sweapt away? Did you make it to Budapest? Did you get to see little villages around the Balaton lake? Do tell, and exaggerate!
dagmarka... click on the link in my post above... My Big Fat Hungarian Adventure. I can't reccomend the hospitals, but I can definitly reccomend the hospital staff!
