Child Gives In To Temptation, Gets Tongue Stuck To Pole

WYTHEVILLE, Va. -- It looked like a scene out the movie "A Christmas Story."

A 9-year-old boy in Virginia gave in to an age-old temptation while waiting for the school bus on a very cold day. He touched a metal pole with his tongue. His tongue stuck to the post.

The Roanoke Times reported that a local police officer talked to the boy at the scene while his dad got some warm water.

According to the newspaper, the conversation went like this:

"Are you OK?"
"Uh-uh."
"Have you learned anything?"
"Uh-huh."
"Are you going to do this again?"
"Uh-uh."

The boy's dad applied the water, and the boy's tongue was freed from the post, apparently unharmed.

It happened prolly three times while I was growing up. The one I remember most vividly was when we were waiting for the bus, and a "dare you" war broke out. Kid did it, one of us went sprinting for a parent + warm water.

AK has plently on metal outside, and in the winter time, hardly a dare is nessasary to see if what you watched on dumb and dumber when you were little would actually happen.

Growing up in a cold climate as a kid, I certainly tried it. Once. No triple dog dares either. Sad I was always a precocious child and had a huge desire to see for myself if what everyone else said about somethng was true. In this case, the truth did not set me free, but got me really, really stuck! Smile

This has been a "common sport" (among boys only) when we were young: who could do it the longest time ... and not get stuck.

I'm sure that naughty silly boy learned his lesson. Instead of thinking about an interesting day in school and learning new things he licks a pole. Smile ....

I've never done that.

Is there an age limit, or can anyone try?
