I have a Makita 12" miter saw. IT IS great , but Ive had it temporarily mounted onto a wooden table for about 2 yrs and Its getting old. I havent bought a miter table yet cause most of them look rather flimsy. Anyone have a mobile miter table they are fond of???

@farmerman,
Not me. I do like the looks of the Dewalt model looks pretty good though, and will probably work as well with Makita.

My saw is just mounted on a folding table. I reinforced it on the bottom of the tabletop with a couple of longitudinal steel channels. Not industrial steel, but about 1/2 inch wide. Of course, it is not especially mobile.

@farmerman,
I've got a deck building job coming up where the client wants to use 4 x 4 actual size cedar and my 10" miter can't go quite that big so I picked up a 12". It's significantly heavier than the 10" but still works just dandy on my Bosch gravity rise stand. And that stand is a hell of a good product keeping me mobile and then folding away to keep space usage down. They are pricey but if you can find one used (or if you decide not to be a penny-pinching-grumpy-old-bastard) you'll cherish the thing.

@roger,
Because my tool shop is in the garage (where we store other stuff) dust is a problem. So I've put everything on mobile stands (two of the Bosch folding stands for miter and table saw, and then wood stands I've built for router and drill press. Those wood stands and my work bench are all on wheels so I can roll them outside. Of course, if you add wheels with no modification to the legs, you will raise your work surface 5 " or so.

@farmerman,
The DeWalt 12's are good and I've heard good things about the (more expensive) Bosch as well. We had a DeWalt for a dozen years at the craft school where I work. It took some abuse (jamming and pinching by the newbies) but it ran accurately and reliably until a bequest allowed the school to buy a bunch of rebuilt Festool equipment.

@blatham,
I saw an ad for a Rockler wwheeled table for Miter tables up to 29" slide. My makita is 22" so itll work . It looks pretty good but the"reviews" it got were not good for the after care the damn thing got wrt its packaging (important long parts were bent (reviews were 3 out of 5 against even though they all loved the table (once it had its parts properly cleaned and pressed)
The Rockler runs a bit over 300 but the wheels look big and substantial.

Any body have dealings with one of those?

I looked at all the ones you guys gave me suggestions on and truthfully, each of the wheel assemblies look "counter convenient"

@hightor,
there was a Bosch table that really had my attention but it was discontinued and I dont want to wait around till yard sale season to find one from a woodworker whose discovered that woodworking, like anything else, reflects the skills we bring to the table (or chair, whatever).

I knew that Roger and Edgar were toolmen but Im pleased knowing others here are similarly capable. I shall not avoid other questions for tools or tips.

@blatham,
No worse than Hilti. I started with some of them and after having tools replaced ad nauseum I went with all Milwaukees for portable tools. I love how the batteries are interchangeable and they keep bringing out better and better batteries.

@farmerman,
AHHH, it wasnt a ROCKLER, it was a PORTAMATE PM-8000 (90 inch extended) wheeled table.

@farmerman,
Are you referring to the portacube stand from Rockler? I had never heard of it before.

The Bosch stand is, for me, very convenient. It folds and unfolds with saw aboard, rolls with ease and I can roll it out of it's place then onto the driveway and have it up ready to cut in 10 seconds easy. Same with return. The sliding support arms are very strong/stable with a substantial reach (adequate for anything I've ever done).

@farmerman,
I've never used Hilti. I would be happy with products from a number of name brands certainly including Milwaukee. Reviews led me to choose Bosch for my larger tools and my cordless as well. And yeah, ain't these new batteries wonderful.

You got me there. That is a tool I would love to have but can't justify purchasing. Actually, they have a number of tools I'd love to own. I'd better stop as I'm getting sad.

That's a supplier I've not turned to. But I'd more likely source from Jessem, a Canadian company.

@blatham,
Hilti, like many, are just overpriced . The gimmick of "fix or replace for life" doesnt warrant the expense for a home hobbyist. BUT ,having said that, I can justify any Milwaukee tool. They track o well, have nice balance and are powerful a hell. I even use my Milwaukee Sawzall, to cut firewood down in my woods.

@blatham,
Its a PORTAMATE PM 8000 (90") sold by MAX TOOLS. The wheels are much bigger than mot all other portable tables and they are in the plane of the saws slide. The saw mounts on a swivel so it stores underneath . Many of these 12" miters are very heavy so some of the tables have the wheels make the table work like an old wheelbarrow (Wheels in the front, saw load in the middle and you have to lift the saw to move it.
