how to torch fish?

There is a coral atoll located in Yap State in the Caroline Islands of the Federated States of Micronesia, west pacific, namely, Ifaluk. People living there could "torch fish" as well as fish by other means for food.
I Think torch fish is a technique some people elsewhere also use some times. I only know Ifalut people use torches made from dried coconut fronds to attract the flying fish to the sailing canoe; then the flying fish are used as bait for deepwater trolling to catch large dogtoothed tuna.
I have two question,
1) does flying fish like fly to light place in the night?

2) and is flying fish delicious for deep sea fishes?
Thank you.
