Multiple universes, quantum suicide?

My friend talked to me about the possibility of multiple universes as theorized by using quantum theories. He said something about when a particle approaches two pathways, we see that it took one, but in actuality it might take both path?? I don't quite get this. he said he heard it somewhere. And what's this thing about quantum suicide or something...
