• He began to comfort me with such unaccustomed gentleness.

Hi, the above is the definition of "unaccustomed" from my dictionary.

Could anyone tell me the difference in meaning between "unaccustomed" and "unusal"?

Is there any connotation which is changed if I replace "unaccustomed" with "unusual" at the place I underline?

Thanks!

@iclearwater,
Yes.. Unaccustomed means that the person under consideration doesn't usually act that may. Unusual I much more general. It means that the behavior is out of the ordinary. Gentlensee is not an unusual behavior in general, but the person under consideration does not unusally exhibit it, so from him it is unaccustomed behavior.
