Hello, I'm a junior in high school and I'm currently writing a lab for a shark dissection. My question is this: Why are the shark Denticles angled, rather than being parallel with the sharks body?

Denticle=Spikey-tooth like things that are all over the sharks body(as scales are to fish). They provide less-drag so they swim faster.

Please HALP!

I didn't know they were angled. Are all shark species this way, or just a few?

Maybe it deflects the water in some way which is beneficial to the shark?

If it's just one species, then it might be a specialization based on the behavior of that particular species, but if it's all sharks, then it must have some more general function.
