Here's what I did. Don't know if it's right.

1. Convert 0.1 mm to 0.0001 m
2. Then, 2^39 * 0.0001 m
3. Answer? 54975581

My answer was 1000, but am I the only one that finds it ammusing that the connumdrum question would actually be physically impossible in reality?

You can only fold a peice of paper in half 7 times before it becomes impossible to fold again.
Surprised

You are right. It is impossible to fold so many times. I hope this is not a trick question.

Nah paper can be folded more then 7 times. In fact a cali HS student proved it can be folded at least 12 times -->

http://www.pomonahistorical.org/12times.htm

It's a rather interesting read it includes her formula on why it is possible and how to figure an item's folding limit.

Three cheers to breaking of old Myths and creating new facts! I wonder how long untill the HS science books catch up with the HS students? =D

the new conundrum

Suppose you had a life-size map of Neopia, made of paper. The thickness of the paper is 0.1 millimetres.

Now, suppose you fold it in half. Then you fold it in half again, and again, and again. In all, you fold it in half 40 times.

How thick would the folded paper be? Please give your answer in metres, round to the nearest metre, and exclude any punctuation or extra information.

whats the awnser
