Subject: You won the Lenny Conundrum! First 250!

Message:

Dear You dont even know my name,

Congratulations! You have guessed correctly in the Lenny Conundrum game (round 389). You have won 8033 NP!

Because you were in the first 250 to guess correctly, you also have been awarded a Eo Codestone, and receive a trophy and the Lenny Conundrum avatar!

Yours Sincerely,
The Neopets Team!

yay! #262 Very Happy the answer was 14, not 19, the pattern was following pi 314159 etc. and since I won 8033 NP, only 249 people got it right Razz

So based on the correct answer e-mails, the pattern was based on PI again. 3, 1, 4, 1, 5, 9, 2, 6, 5, 3, 5, 8, 9, 7. The proper interpretation of the problem was that each day, all those Neopets who received a codestone the previous day would give one codestone to each of N Neopets that had not received a codestone anytime previously, where N is the digit from PI.

So the first day, 3 Neopets get a codestone from the fairie. The second day, each of those Neopets gives a codestone to 1 Neopet, so now 6 Neopets have received a codestone. The third day, the 3 Neopets that received a codestone on day 2 each give codestones to 4 new Neopets. That means 12 additional Neopets for a total of 18 Neopets so far. On day 4, 12 x 1 = 12 new codestones given out for a total of 30. On day 5, 12 x 5 = 60 new codestones given out for a total of 90. On day 6, 60 x 9 = 540 new codestones given out for a total of 630. Continuing the pattern, we get:
Day 7 - total of 1710
Day 8 - 8190
Day 9 - 40,590
Day 10 - 137,790
Day 11 - 623, 790
Day 12 - 4,511,790
Day 13 - 39,503,790
Day 14 - 284,447,790 so all Neopets in Neopia (270+ million) will have received a codestone.

@lennyfan,
Wow I so totally misunderstood this problem. I only had all the pets handing out the new number to the new pets so it took forever to give every pet one and it took me forever to come up with a totally wrong answer. Thanks for the explination.

@spaceymom,
The current prize for the first 250 correct entries is a Double Chocolate Surprise. You will also get a cool trophy that people can see when they do a user lookup on you! And all correct entries will split the 2,000,000 Neopoint prize pool.

well, if nobody else is gonna post it...

THIS WEEKS PUZZLE - ends Next Wednesday, most likely

Suppose you are in the Battledome, pitted against that awesome opponent, Punchbag Bob. You are armed with Rohanes Armour Polish and a Portable Kiln. Your level is 125, your strength is 150, your defence is 140, and your move is 75.

If you berserk attack with both weapons, and Punchbag Bob neither attacks nor defends in response, how many hit points of damage will you do to Punchbag Bob? Please enter only a number.

just do a little research, unless you're already familiar with these battledome items. IDB is down at the time i'm making this post, but there are other sites that are almost as comprehensive (or you could use google cache, whatever)

hmm... well, i found the info for the weapons easy enough.

and the strength bonus is given in the problem.

but i'm not sure what to put into a 'damage calculator' as punchbag bob's stance. =/
there's not really a 'neutral' option in them ... so i just picked one and submitted that.

i guess the only Real way to do this, is have an appropriate pet, buy the weapons and test it yourself.

I just realized I made a really stupid mistake with this one.

I'm an occasional BDer, so I'm familiar with how the BD works. I looked up the weapons' icons and quickly calculated the damage using the strength boosts and the stance multiplier. I submitted my answer less than 2 minutes after the LC went live, feeling completely confident about my answer. However, I realized that the answer I had submitted ended in XX.5, but of course, you can only be dealt damage in whole numbers - I forgot to round up. I submitted my answer too quickly without taking a second to think about my answer.

No amount of facepalming will make up for this.

well, it looks like my guess was wrong : i didn't get a neomail, but it says the round has been judged.

what was the answer? how many people got it right?

also -- the news is up, but 3/3 is 'canceled due to lack of interest' every year, so there's no real content in it ..... .... so will a new puzzle come out tonight at some point? or with tomorrow's news? or next week?

I got a top 250 message after putting in 77 last week. I'm guessing there won't be any LC today, as they always put the number of winners in the news and there is no news. Either tomorrow or next week, I presume.

I had a random thought/interesting guess...

This week's Lenny Conundrum has been.....**GASP** cancelled?!? Due to lack of interest? Using the transitive property "if a=b and b=c then a = c..."

Let a = Lenny Conundrum
Let b = Cancelled due to lack of interest

Find c!
