this week has been judged:

You won the Lenny Conundrum! First 250!
Dear xxxxx,

Congratulations! You have guessed correctly in the Lenny Conundrum game (round 342). You have won 1873 NP!

Because you were in the first 250 to guess correctly, you also have been awarded a Unhappy Tails, and receive a trophy and the Lenny Conundrum avatar!

Yours Sincerely,
The Neopets Team!

The answer was Acara.
this could be found by either printing the puzzle out, then turning it sideways and tilting it away from you until the letters appeared.
OR take the image into paint, rotate it 90 degrees, and SHRINK it top-to-bottom. eventually the horizontal lines disappear, and you are left with only the letters.

YAYYYAYYYAYYYAYYAYAYAY

finally a trophy, and this time I thought way more then 250 people would have guessed it before me (I was still before the answer was posted here though so I guess I was quicker then most still)

this makes up for last week though, where I submitted the wrong answer due to misreading the question Sad

it was actually a pretty neat optical illusion, if you printed it out the effect was better.
but even with paint, once you finally "saw" it there was no denying it was there.

FINALLY

he current prize for the first 250 correct entries is a Neopia In Under 18NP A Day. You will also get a cool trophy that people can see when they do a user lookup on you! And all correct entries will split the 2,000,000 Neopoint prize pool.

THIS WEEKS PUZZLE - ends Next Wednesday, most likely

Suppose you have a scale model of Neopia. The model is a perfect sphere. The diameter of the sphere is exactly 41 inches, and is constructed of solid steel, exactly 0.8 inches thick. Inside the sphere, there are 50 smaller steel spheres, each exactly 2 inches in diameter, and the rest of the sphere is filled up with water.

If the density of steel is exactly 490 pounds per cubic foot, and the density of water is exactly 62.4 pounds per cubic foot, how much does the model weigh, in pounds? Please round to the nearest whole pound, and submit only a number with no other information as your answer. For example, if you get the answer 314.159 lbs, you would submit the answer "314".
Do you know the answer?!?

So are the little balls solid or hollow???? And if hollow, what is inside?

@beebzzz,
Well, that's what I assumed for my answer. We'll see how it goes. Seems like it was a pretty simple math problem this week.

@lennyfan,
do you want to compare results?

When calculating the volume of the sphere, are you including the thickness (.8in) with the diameter? Or do I subtract the .8 from both sides?

@starleogirl09,
I'm pretty sure you should read it as 41 inches outer diameter and the inside, water and small-sphere filled part as 0.8 inches smaller diameter.

I can't decide whether the 41in diameter is the outside or the inside diameter of the big sphere. Also, I assumed that as it stated the smaller spheres are the same is the big one, they were hollow. *sighs* I'll get to an answer soon.

@medy,
Same steel, but if hollow, then the question arises as to what is inside them. Since they didn't say, I decided to go with them being solid.

Do you subtract the volume of the water from the small spheres?

@lennyfan,
Thank you Smile
That's how I was reading it, but I just wasn't sure.

@plantgirl,
Actually, I subtracted the volume of the small spheres from the interior volume of the big sphere to get the volume of water I used.
