I believe I am on the wrong track with a cryptogram because every letter of the alphabet is used (not uncommon in the land of Neopia), but I cannot seem to get a rhythm from top or bottom. Possibly every other letter, but it is beginning to look mathematical after all.

@grandmaboss,
I'm still drawing blanks on the math front... and I'm not super good at cryptograms... but the pairing seems to be indicating a mathematical approach... This is rather offputting

I have figured it out and I will give a hint before I go. It is similar to the one we did a couple of weeks ago. I am getting off now so it won't do any good to ask more questions. Good luck. I wish someone could have answered my question last week. (Does anyone remember what the prize was for #320? I was on vacation and missed it and I wanted to put it in my list. )

@spaceymom,
That is what we all were referring to earlier but it doesn't work for some of the letters.

SWEET!!! i've got it i've got it!!

the pairing are reversed -- well, second letter of the pair is.
sooo ... WT pairs with HW, to give WW (you'll use the T with the H last)
then AQ and SO is really AO for the next one (and SQ next to last)

continue on and solve as before.
finding the answer to the question is a bit tricky as well.

@jjbuttcrack,
I am confused. Thought I understood..but not sure now. Worked out for a bit..did:
WT/HW=WW=W
AQ/SO=AO=H
NU/UP=NP=O
Continued to end. Didn't make sense all the way through. What did I do wrong?

you're totally doing it right -- that is how it starts.
just keep going all the way to the end using the first letters (and using up all the second letters in reverse)

just check your work, and use some logic for where to put in the spaces between words.

so the question is ..
Who once paid fifty neopoints each for four rubber ducks and was paid five hundred neopoints in return?

you can find the answer here: http://www.neopets.com/ntimes/index.phtml?section=55683&week=179

dude -- what part of 'not totally giving away the answer' was lost on you??

if this continues, i'll be changing from help-mode to lurking-mode. not cool.

seriously -- this wasn't easy to figure out. it took quite a bit of work.
i gave the board the KEY so that everyone else could *work* it out for themselves.
showing that you were able to follow my instructions is alright (just say thanks), but posting the final answer -- well, i know i can't police it, but i really don't care for it AT ALL. let the other lurkers do SOME work. geez.

@jjbuttcrack,
To jjbuttcrack.
Although you have received a few thankyous, I would just like to add that I think it was amazing how you solved this puzzle, and thankyou from me too. Good job, well done, kudos to you. I was working, and had no opportunity (as usual), to contribute, however, you were kind enough to post the solution for us all to work on - don't think I could have solved this one without your help. I understand your irritation at the answer being emblazoned on this site, especially since it took so much work (and brilliance) from you to solve it. I actually plodded through it (using your method) prior to the answer being divulged and was appreciative of your "gift" solution. I agree, everyone should put in at least a little effort.

but you really did a good job finding the key on how to solve this puzzle

i wont do it again next time, sorry again...
