@ro67,
An * would imply multiplication... If that's the case, then there's bound to be a REPEATING number in pi withing the first 100 digits so the answer would be simple...that's a hint

@dweezy,
That's what I got too. I just wanted to double-check, because I didn't think it would be so easy.

@K311Y,
Round: 279
Answer: gadgadsgame

Actually, there was an error in the puzzle that we did not notice until after the Lenny Conundrum went live, so we accepted many different answers that had "Gadgads" in it.

@blacksuzaku,
Yeah Suzaku, I realized after I made that post that I had misspoken. In my fuzzy headed state, I second guessed the LC instructions. I'm sorry. Smile

@Jen Aside,

I guessed, didn't bother to check, so I'm either in the first ten or WAY WRONG

Well, I don't know what you guessed, but it's possible to figure it out very quickly with just a little thought. I used Excel and only after I had all the numbers laid out and was about to copy in the math equations, did I realize the obvious answer, so I'm sure I'm not in the top 250. Razz

@Jen Aside,
Quote:
Suppose a1 is the first digit (after the decimal point) of Pi, a2 is the second digit, and so on...

What would the following formula equal:

(a1 - a2) * (a2 - a3) * (a3 - a4) * ... * (a99 - a100)

The first hundred digits of "pi" are:

3.14159 26535 89793 23846 26433 83279 50288 41971 69399 37510 58209 74944 59230 78164 06286 20899 86280 34825 34211 70679

As you can see (highlighted), there are many instances in which a[i] " a[i+1] will equal zero. Thus the product as a whole must also equal zero.

The answer is 0 (the numeral "zero", not the letter "oh").

Eliz.

THIS WEEKS PUZZLE - ends next Wednesday, most likely.

Walking into Chesterdrawer's Antiques, you notice several clocks on the wall. The first clock reads 9:00, the second reads 6:07, the third 10:45, the fifth 7:45, the sixth 7:52, and the seventh 4:37.

What should the fourth clock read?

@stormygoddess,
I tried putting the times into an analog clock, but couldn't see anything in there. I tried entering them in a calculator to see if they said anything upside down, but I couldn't find anything. And I thought the lack of AM/PM might have something to do with it, but I'm completely clueless.

@darkiaia,
Are the times in relation to 12 o'clock?
Are they in relation to their order?
Should the times be listed in alpha order?
I can't make any sense of it.

@pattipaws,
I also tried substituting letters for the numbers in the times, but got nowhere with that.

@Stehfee,
I tried moving the hands of a real clock and looking to see if there were any patterns in the degrees made between the two sets of hands (both outside and inside) given that the whole clock is a 360 degree circle and for instance 9:00 is 60 degrees inside angle and 270 on the outside

I can't find any patterns though here is my list if anyone wants to check for mistakes or look at it

90 // 270

138 // 222

30 // 330

?? // ???

60 // 300

102 // 258

132 // 228
