i may be off here since its not going along with the present thinking. but it looks to me that it might be factorials.
each builds upon the last
1
1+6!
1+6!+3!
1+6!+3!+7!
1+6!+3!+7!+4!
1+6!+3!+7!+4!+1 (wich is the 1 from the first one)
then the next in the series would continue with the addition of the second (6!)?

If it is factorials...
Why is it jumping from 1 to 6 to 3 to 7 to 4 to 1...then to 6 again, how can you be certain it wont go to another number...

On the side note...your theory is the best I've seen yet.

i didn't even notice the correlation between the other numbers around the 7. very interesting. i think I'd still go with my 6! though just because it was already part of the sequence and it seems that it is starting over again with the number before, but i can definitely see how there is the possibility with the 7!.

6 would be my better choice but don't eliminate 7 in the mind.

The factorials seems to make sense, if in a bit of a random sequence. I submitted my answer with the sequence ending in 6 because it seemed to repeat, I don't understand where the 7 comes from ... ?

Edit: Don't know if this has anything to do with anything but there's a neopets user with the name 16374 Confused

721 = 1+6!
then need to equal 727 which would be the 1+6! then only factorial that would work would be 3!
5767 would be following the sequence 1+6!+3!+ the only factorial that would work would be 7!
5791 = 1+6!+3!+7!+4! following the same logic as previous
5792 would be the last plus just 1 more which is the very first number in the sequence neopets gave.
so following sequentially the answer would be 1+6!+3!+7!+4!+1+6! (since we started over) (following my logic you could just keep going like that just repeating the sequence over after you get to 4! each time)

k im confused, whats the answer? all this is telling me is confusing stuff...
it seems like you all have it but can u simplify it and just tell me it? coz ive read thru the comments like 10 times and i dont get it

Looks like sound logic to me. Often, when asked for the next of something in a list, the asker is expecting you to find the pattern. Often, not always. It's the same solution I came up with. Which means, I hope it's right

What we're talking about here is factorials. They're designated in math by an exclamation point. Such as 6! So here's how they work: 6! = 6 x 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 720

Just a side note, 0! = 1 not 0 like you'd expect.

i've been lurking on here for quite awhile and the one thing i really like is that everyone helps to try and figure it out, but doesn't just give the answer out so people can figure it out for themselves. i love math and these are so much more fun with just getting the helps. Very Happy

Well, I'm not gonna do this one. For one, I didn't log on 'till WAY after the LC came out, so I can't get a trophy or item.

And I just DON'T get this! Confused I hate math..

BTW, I was very surprised to see how many people submit the right answer in a wrong way. I guessed at 350 which is 10%, but 750 is over 20%. We've got to remember that =)

wait lets see if i got this, so the answer that i put in shuold be the number that comes from:

1
1+6!
1+6!+3!
1+6!+3!+7!
1+6!+3!+7!+4!
1+6!+3!+7!+4!+1+6!
can someone confirm this?

I give up finally......I still don't know where the 3 came from. They didn't have this kind of crazy math when I was in school many, many years ago.

It's not worth remembering. It changes constantly, depending on how many people attempt the LC in a week. For instance, if anyone goes on vacation and can't enter, or what reason. [Also, a lot of people give up after a while or, less often, realize their error and don't make the mistake again.]

got the 3! from 727-721=6 the factorial that =6 is 3! (1x2x3=6)

The numbers 1 6 3 7 4 1 correlate to the number of letters in each word of the sentence: "A Chomby was walking down a path one day."
