In this diagram, the red part has an area of 800 square centimetres.

What is the area of the green part, in square centimetres? Please round up to the nearest whole number, and submit only the answer.

I found this gem...

If we know the length of each side of a pentagon, then the area of the pentagon is:

A = (1/4)a^2 * sqrt[25 + 10 * sqrt(5)]

where 'a' is the side length.

We can find the side length using the Law of Cosines.

Draw line segments from the center of the pentagon to two adjacent vertices. This forms an equilateral triangle where the two equal sides are 8 units long, and the length of the base is 'a'.

Since the pentagon is made up of five of these triangles, the central angle will be one-fifth of a complete circle.

I hate the math ones so I submitted 682..(I don't know either). My curiosity will probably make me figure it out later, but for now, that's what im going with. Thanks Heather. You saved me a lot of headache time. Smile
