Hey Phyron -- did you get a win?
Phyron, did you get it right? I'm hoping so.. mine came through but I just used the number 220.. no other info. If not, next time you'll know the right procedure.

A digital sum of a number is found by adding all of the digits of a number, then adding all the digits of that number, and so on, until you are left with a one-digit number.

For example, the digital sum of the number 729 would be found like this: 7+2+ 9 = 18, and then 1+ 8 = 9.

What is the digital sum of the number that can be found by the following formula?

(9^62773 + 2)^83721

I got 9^62773+2, but the calculator I used online requires you to enter each number individually by clicking, and umm.... It's about 2 pages long on my wordpad. Confused

So, raising that number to the 83721th power is going to be a little tough.

I tried the digital sum of the exponents (62773) and came up with 41 then 5.
9^5+2=59051
The digital sum of the exponents on the outside (83721) comes out to 21 then 3.
59051^3=205912053509651
the digital sum of that comes out to 53 then 8.
If this is correct I don't know, but it's the closest I've come to it

the digital sum of 9 to any power is 9
9+2 = 11 -> 2

2^83721...
2^1 = 2 -> 2
2^2 = 4 -> 4
2^3 = 8 -> 8
2^4 = 16 -> 7
2^5 = 32 -> 5
2^5 = 64 -> 1
2^6 = 128 -> 2
2^7 = 256 -> 4

the digital pattern of 2^n is 2 4 8 7 5 1 and it repeats
83721 / 6 has remainder 3 so the 3rd number in the pattern is 8

8 is the answer

(9^62773 + 2)^83721

(9^25+2)^83721

(9^7+2)^83721

(4782969+2)^83721

(45+2)^83721

(9+2)^83721

(11)^83721

(2)^83721

2^(21)

2^3

8

If you use the distributive property, you get:

9^(62773 * 83721) + 2^83721

9 to any power gives a number with a digital sum of 9
2^83721 gives a number with a digital sum of 8

It seems (and this is a stretch) that any number with a digital sum of 9 added to any number with a digital sum of 8 gives an answer with a digital sum of 8.

I don't know if this is correct, but that's my 2 cents
