9847
4789
____
5058
Flip it around and the Answer is 8505
9876 is still less than 9950, can I ask where you got the 4 from?
Yuma- I got the same answer. I think the numbers have to be the same in all three- largest, smallest and volume.
I think Yuma is right. Everyone go with that answer. xD -kills mine-

I'm afraid you need to be in the first 250

From some stupid part of my brain that wasn't functioning correctly. xD I was never good at math.

i started with that, rearangedthe numbers for the small one and subtracted

i dont understand O_o
me neither.... it doesn't say that the figures need to be unique AND different from the ones in 9950
Just wondering, the url of the pic is

Hope those numbers 5-4-8-1 don't mean anything
Hang on, read the conundrum thoroughly first.
The volume number was a four-digit number, in which all four digits were unique. If you take the largest possible four-digit number that can be made by rearranging the four digits, and you subtract from that the smallest possible four-digit number that can be made by rearranging the four digits,
It is not saying any four numbers, it is saying the four numbers of the volume number.
wow
i didn't notice it... i would be quite mean
and yep, yuma is right, 7641 works out to be the highest number.
Well 5481 would mean that:
Largest-8541
Smallest-1458
Subtract= 7083 so that can't be it.

but the volume number has the same numbers as the biggest and lowest
L/C
Using the 5481
largest 8541
less1458
=7083
reversed is 3807
falls within range no?

No because the numbers must be the same all three times, just in a different order.
